More Like Repurposing Than A True Hack

Unfortunately, the Palm T/X needs to have its software installed to sync with a desktop. I say unfortunately because I often write content "on the run" with my Palm, and need to upload it to a public access computer for posting on this site.

The following is the work around I've been using. The documents are saved to the SD card, as opposed to the internal memory. A text file gets saved as a Word file, and not the Word To Go format in Documents To Go. Now, all I need to do is plug the SD card into the desktop and it will be recognized. The file can be opened and edited like any other Word document.

However, the desktop doesn't have a built in card reader. I generally like a multiformat USB card reader that can handle a variety of memory cards. Their drawback is that they are a little bulky to carry around.

An old SD card based MP3 player solved the problem. With a short USB cable, it doubles as an SD card reader. The desktop recognizes this as a USB mass storage device, and there are no drivers needed beyond what Windows ME and newer versions already have. An additional benefit is that the MP3 player is compact.

Well, there you have it. I chose to write this up because while it's pretty obvious, chances are others have something similar in a drawer somewhere that they could put to use. This is more "repurposing" than a true hack.
