What's a Side Panel on Your Computer Case Worth?

How about 3 degrees? And not necessarily in a good way.

Put the front and left side panels on the MCE system's P150 box (the right side panel is still drying) with the overclocked 955EE (4GHZ). Brought up ASUS' AiBoost panel and Shazaam! The CPU heat at idle was sitting at 49 degrees Celsius. Huh? That Big Typhoon fan had the processor idling rock steady at 46 degrees for the last five days.

Okay... So I pull the left side panel off and almost imediately (or at least in the time it takes to walk the 8 feet from the computer to my chair) the temp drops back down to 46 degrees. Best guess is that the fan is too close to the panel and the hot air is getting blown back into it.

Looks like it's time to get out that battery powered Dremel tool and make an uxhaust port... Never a dull moment... Sigh...
