How to Make an ATI All-in-Wonder Card Work
The truth is, I should have realized this simple fact months, if not years, ago. ATI makes some very competitive graphics cards but its All-in-Wonder TV card series has almost universally suffered from criticism. Unfortunately, it's deserved. I've gone through three iterations of the card (8xxx, 9xxx, and now x800 xl) and seen the hardware marginally improve. What hasn't made any real strides forward is the software.
Being both a graphics card and a TV Tuner is the problem. ATI just can't seem to make a Catalyst upgrade (for the graphics side) that doesn't screw up the tuner side of the card. Point in had, the X 800 XL was working fine with XP MCE -until- I upgraded the hardware drivers through Windows Update. After that, shazaam! Nuttin! When I went back to the original install disc and its software, shazaam! It's working again.
AMD just upgraded to ATI, didn't it?
