A Video Flash Memory Card Recorder

I've been chronicling my search for a VCR replacement, and this newly introduced product from SanDisk, the V-Mate, has me intrigued. Rather than going in the direction of a hard drive, they're opting for a flash based storage system. While SanDisk is a flash memory manufacturer after all, the goal here is to record content onto the cards for later use on things like cell phones, PDA's and Play Station Portables.

The SanDisk V-Mate lets users record up to 3.5 hours** of high quality video per gigabyte, using industry-standard video formats. Memory cards supported include SD™, MMC™, MMCplus™ MMCmobile™, SDHC™, MiniSDHC™, MicroSDHC™, Memory Stick PRO™, Memory Stick Duo™ and Memory Stick PRO Duo™

While the jury is still out if it can replace a VCR, its small size certainly could earn it a spot near my TV to create some content for my Palm T/X for mobile viewing. We'll work on getting one in The Lab to put it through its paces.

I would like to get my hands on one of these too - Seems like a neat idea, if the quality can keep up.

it looks like it could take the pain out of converting content for a memory card to be viewed on a PDA etc. I'm not certain that it has a TV tuner within in though.
