More Disposable Electronics
While I've been enjoying my SV2000 bargain DVD/VCR, the folks at Wal-Mart have been expanding the disposable electronics line. They still have the sub-$50 DVD/VCR, but it has been joined by two new siblings.
The first is the SV2000 DVD Recorder. It was in the store for $80, but the website has it for an even cheaper $70. It supports recording to both "+" and "-" DVD discs. At this price, it's a lot easier to stomach when there are no firmware upgrades.
Along the same line, there is now an SV2000 DVD Recorder/VCR combo deck. This goes for an uber-affordable $100. While I am not a big fan of this type of device, this is the only one of the lineup that has a DVD player capable of progressive scanning, for whatever that is worth for the small appearance benefit. Interestingly, this unit is not listed on the Wal-Mart website, but I did see a stack of them in the store today.
After seeing some of the choices, I'm starting to develop a case of buyer's remorse and considering an upgrade to one of these.
