Jumping On Board the Hi Def Band Wagon
After doing my research, choosing the model I wanted, and waiting for the price to drop, I've put my order in for a new high definition television. As the price just dropped this week to a more affordable $730, including shipping at Amazon, I pulled the trigger on the sale. When I saw the same set at Circuit City this week, it was going for $810, so at least that makes this big ticket item seem like a relative bargain of some sort.
That price includes the "super saver shipping." They should rename it the "back of the line" shipping. So far it looks like while the shipping will take five days, or maybe a little more, they won't ship it until a week goes by. Maybe that's their ploy to get you to select a faster, and in turn more expensive option, but I'm not biting. After all, with the bux I save, I can put it towards one of those pricey HDMI cables. Rest assured that we'll give this set the once over, and expect a full review. I'm also curious to see how my digital over the air reception will be, and what my DVD's will look like from a standard DVD player.

HDMI will only be useful for a dvd player tha has hdmi, ps3, xbox360, or if you have a hdtv box from your satellite company ( since cable companies are worthless and nobody would still have an account with them :p )
HDTV will blow you away!
I watched a Nascar race in HDTV and actually saw the REAL colors of the cars! Just like being there in person.
DVDS look great. I bought a CHEAP upconverting dvd player from Sam's Club that included the HDMI cable for around $50. I cant tell much of a difference between 480p and 720p unconversion, but there is SOME difference. I do not have 1080p so I could not tell you how it does on that :)
OTA reception in hit and miss in my area! I bought a philips I believe antenna from wally world that is around 50db, and I still cant keep signals 100% of the time :(
Will be curious as to how everything works out for you!

PS - we have a cheap Olevia 32" in the bedroom, so your might look even better also ;) Couldnt beat the $499 - %10 price!
The DVD/hard drive recorder I'm saving up for has HDMI out I believe so I may get to use it. They say it has the best quality. In the meantime, I'm going to connect the DVD player via the component video cables. My DVD player is from 2001, so I don't have upconverting as it doubled the price back then.
I'm curious to see how the digital reception is as well. My analog reception is pretty good as I tune in all the major channels without too much problem most of the time. It used to be near perfect, but since the WTC collapsed on 9/11 the reception (and a few more other things...) haven't quite been the same. You see, the TV networks had their antenna on top, and since then, things have been cobbled together. If the digital reception stinks, I'll do analog for now, and look into some other solutions, like a mini dish.
Stay tuned as I'll have a lot more to share on this topic. It's in the shipping process, and should arrive tomorrow, or early next week.
