NudgeCast 5/20/08

Thoughts on Optimum WiFi, the CNET/CBS deal, the Voom television package and a new incredibly useful website to discuss cable.

I put a vote in for FF and RW buttons :)

If I want to hear a section again it would be nice to go right to it.

Getting greedy, are you?

Unfortunately, there are bandwidth fees associated with this website, and we're not exactly profitable yet, and won't be anytime soon, so thanks to all of you that contribute to make this possible for Bill and myself. I'd like to be able to host the files ourselves, but we'd lose even more money on the deal.

When I started the NudgeCast, I made the decision to outsource it to Blip.tv to keep the bandwidth down. Overall, for the price of free, they do a good job of distributing my content, and make it simple to have it end up back on TNL. Unfortunately, they don't have ff/rew buttons, but for the time being, they do fit the budget, and it does take precedence. The previous site I used did such a good job that I couldn't even find my own content!

In the meantime, thanks for the comment, thanks for listening, and if everyone tells a few more people to listen, you'll get your ff/rew buttons.

Jonas

PS: It's a "pat on the back" that you're listening that closely, and want to hear me ramble again and again...

Another idea - host a mp3 file of the NudgeCast on a free download service site and let people download it to listen to/save/ff/rw/play for others.

There is a FREE idea for ya :)

Got another idea before I hit the Publish button - scary aint it

Bittorrent!!

I can keep them hosted at the minimum of 30k upload speed and sometimes I can give it all the speed I have (about 70k)

I like that idea, then the older ones will be available for people also. I imagine they cant be very big in size so they should get spread quickly also.

You wouldnt use any of the sites bandwidth except for people getting the .torrent file (which could be hosted on one of those free sites like divshare.com) and I could be greedy and ff and rw till my heart explodes.

Mike

I will go on the record as saying I have NOT donated :( I am a cheap bastard, I know. But i can donate bandwidth for the torrent cause!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the thought, and the bandwidth. I'll check it out, it might be a better way to go.

Cool, just let me know.

I can/will keep ALL of the previous episodes, if you send them to me, hosted also on bittorrent.
