Phone Book No More?

I was cleaning out a closet today, and came upon a stack of telephone books. No less than 4 full sized ones, and 2 mini ones. Some were from Verizon, and some from the Yellow Book company. I'm guessing putting out phone books are a profitable business, but storing them is taking up too much space.

I'm really not sure why anyone needs them anymore. Between services like Google 411, and online phone directories that are always up to date, I rarely turn to the phone book for much. The one occasion I use them is to find a category of things, such as electricians in my area. Thankfully that is only and annual event.

As old habits die hard, I didn't toss them all. I kept one white pages, one yellow, and one local. At least I got it down by half.

After thinking about it, I think that the days of a phone book are probably numbered.
